My journey with the Asian Games

October 2018’s SPECIAL Hall Night Talk was an indeed special one as Dr. Herman Hu, former chairman of the Council of City University of Hong Kong and also Chef de Mission of HKSAR’s delegation to the Asian Games was invited to share his journey with the Asian Games. With the curtains closing down to the Asian Games, it was the perfect time to invite Mr. Herman and he shared about his journey in this year’s Asian Games, reflecting on the preparation, unforgettable moments both joyful and stressful, and Hong Kong team’s remarkable achievements.

Mr. Herman Hu is a respected man with many accolades to his name especially in the business and sports field. He is a tennis enthusiast and has been playing tennis and other sports like soccer since a very young age. He highlights the importance of sports in one’s life and how joining sports is not only healthy but also helped him build connections and eventually achieve career success. He shared stories about playing sports with Deng Xiaoping and the royal family of Indonesia amongst many other eminent personalities. Apart from being an athlete, the sports industry offers other chances to take up the sport like being referee’s or coach. His willingness to contribute to the sport and develop Tennis as a sport in Hong Kong is something he is extremely passionate about. Mr. Herman also enlightened the audience with his views on the importance of finding a passion and the grit and determination required to work on it.

The audience was enthralled to hear his first-hand experiences of the Asian Games as he shared his memories and at the same time highlighted the strength of the Hong Kong Asian Games team which brought laurels to Hong Kong.
